the bank but, you must have an account to exchange cash.
Paying in US dollars often results in paying a higher
premium, but US dollars are accepted with local merchants
and hotels. Canadian money however, is NOT accepted.
Tipping is the same as up north for services - 15 to 20%.
Be sure to take small bills and coins as many vendors will
not have change for large bills.

Food and Water
Puerto Vallarta has many restaurants from fast food to fine dining.
In Puerto Vallarta the water purification company has been certified pure for human
consumption for the past eight years. The water in Puerto Vallarta meets US standards for
drinking when it leaves the purification plant, but its not clear if the pipes that carry the water out
still are at the same high standards, so it is best to stick with bottled water.
Most drinks served with ice are made from ice or hielo (pronounced yellow) from a purification
plant. Most of the ice is shaped in ice tubes.

Traveling in Puerto Vallarta
Travel from the airport to your vacation rental
Renting a car is one option. Book early, especially
November through March.
From the airport, taxi service is available. However, if you
want to negotiate a better deal, cross the pedestrian
overpass to the other side of the highway. Agree on a
price before you leave.
If you don't rent a car, use the local bus service. Combis
(mini vans) run every few minutes and the price is very
minimal.
Communication
